disguise after dark

We are excited to present our inaugural exhibition, “Disguise After Dark” on Sunday, October 12, 6–9pm.

Emerging artists Alexandra de Leon, Spencer Lee Erickson, Ryan Hughes, Bob Jones and Stefanie Motta represent the spectrum of Present Works’ gallery programming and values. Both local and national, they use photography, sculpture, painting, and new media to investigate methods of disguise and discovered meanings.

Alexandra de Leon is an interdisciplinary artist based in San Diego, California. In 2006, she received her B.A. in English, Literary and Cultural Studies from the College of William and Mary. She is currently an M.F.A. candidate for Visual Arts at the University of California San Diego.

Spencer Lee Erickson is a multidisciplinary artist, working primarily in sculpture and investigating its relationship to language and the potentiality to imbue an object with specific emotional qualities. Born in Roanoke, Virginia he received his BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University’s Sculpture + Extended Media Department in 2012 and is currently an M.F.A. candidate at the Mason Gross School of Art at Rutgers University. He currently works between Piscataway, New Jersey and Brooklyn, New York.

Ryan Hughes is a painter living and working in Minneapolis, MN. He received his B.F.A. from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 2012. His paintings are concerned with a territory between the known and unknown, where the work functions as a recording of experiences residing at the outskirts of language.

Bob Jones is an interdisciplinary artist, primarily working in sculpture and painting. Utilizing the ephemera from his studio and the natural world, his practice investigates how matter transforms from its initial state into an enigmatic, symbolic form that may coalesce with the sacred. In 2002, Bob received his B.F.A. in Painting from Illinois State University. Based in Milwaukee, Bob works from his home in Bayview, and is represented by 65GRAND in Chicago, Illinois.

Stefanie Motta is a photographer based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She received her M.F.A. in Photography at the University of Minnesota.
